Hand Pump

I hadn't seen one of these in years until I spotted this one in the apple orchard of Spadina House back in October. I was afraid to give it a crank so I don't know if it still works!

Now that is a wonder of past times! Pumping water was a proper workout!

I spent many a day in my childhood pumping one of those.

They are a very rare sight!

When I was young there were a number of these around. There is still one in a state part near us. Sometimes the cold water pumped by hand tastes that much better.

My wife's grandparents had one of these and they lived in New Jersey. I don't remember seeing water come out of it but it was located near where she had her garden. Nice seeing this one.

Kinda looks like it would work.

I gave such a pump somewhere in the past a crank and was immediately stung by a bee that had a nest in that thing. So I now think twice before giving a pump that old a swing.

There's one down the road used as a decoration. I remember grandma's though...the water that came forth was cold and tasty!
