The Teaser

This cat watched me approaching along the sidewalk for a long time and as I got closer it got up and walked towards me meowing all the time. I thought I was going to get a nice greeting but it walked right past me as if i didn't exist. What a tease!

Market

I recently went to a small farmers market and found it really busy as you can see from the lineup at this booth. There was a lot of nice looking produce but I found the prices were quite high. $1.50 for a cob of corn, as an example, seems to be over the top to me. I did buy some tasty pastries though.

Homes On The Old Airfield

I thought I would show you a few of the homes that were built for WWll veterans in the 1940s on the old airfield that was the subject of yesterday's sign. They built a nice development with parks and playgrounds for the kids. There are several pockets of homes like these around the city. As you can see, they are well maintained and were built to last.

An Old Airfield

I love these signs put up by Heritage Toronto with info about local history. This one has had a bit of fading and paint peeling but you can still read it I hope. My Mum grew up near this area and always talked about how it was an airfield when she was a kid but it is now full of houses and is in the middle of the city. I'll show you some of the homes they built for veterans tomorrow.

Mini

I spotted this Mini Cooper just before the owner came along and had just crossed the street for a side view when he went over to the door. It actually had right-hand drive. They are such cute little cars. I gave him a thumbs up as he drove off.

The Painted House

I never did make it by the house that is covered inside and out with art. It had a few open house events but when I went by there was a huge line-up and I am no fan of those. Plus being inside with a load of people feels a bit strange with lots of covid around it seems. This is the front of the house with a Nick Sweetman mural around the upper window and a tiger by Jieun Kim on the front porch. I do have some more of the outside murals to show later.

Harvesting Tomatoes

The tomatoes are ripening out on the deck and now we will be eating them with every meal to try to keep up with the harvest. Not that I mind at all!

Sand Bath

House Sparrows seem to enjoy having a sand bath so much. I don't remember if I have ever seen other birds doing this. There are actually 6 Sparrows having a good time in this small patch of sand found along a laneway.

Waterlily

I always stop to take a shot of a waterlily when I see one. This one was all alone in a large pond.

Curves Continue

I showed you this building under construction in the Annex neighbourhood back in May (HERE) and as you can see work continues. I am still thinking that it will be quite interesting when finished. Love those curved balconies.

Deco Building

This is part of the Royal Theatre building which I showed you a few weeks ago. It was probably used as part of the theatre when it was a cinema but now houses a chicken sandwich place. Too bad they didn't do a sign with an art deco flavor to go along with the wonderful details on the building itself.

Cool Truck

I'm not really into pickup trucks but this one I keep seeing around town and it always looks so good with the white and chrome detailing. I just happened upon it parked one Sunday morning. I'm guessing it is from sometime in the 1960s.

A Trio

An old house is to be demolished to make way for several apartment units and in the meantime the developer has allowed artists to decorate the inside and outside of the house. I haven't been inside yet but checked out the exterior. These 3 images were found running along the side of the house down a laneway. I'll try to get by for an interior tour.

A Neighbourhood Cafe

Another one of the tiny  cafes that have been popping up in residential areas in the older parts of the city, this one also serves ice cream cones which is a great idea in the summer.

Shelter

This shot was taken through heavy rain looking out a window onto the roof deck. We have had young Robins running around on the deck and this youngster was out there when the skies opened. He went under an overhang and sat upon a clay bunny for about 10 minutes while the rain pelted down. He looked nervous.

Glass

This is the central staircase in the Raymond Moriyama designed Bata Shoe Museum. That 42 ft tall window faces south and lights the whole central part of the building. The window was done by artist Lutz Haufschild using painted, bevelled and laminated glass.

Contrast

This gate is found at one of the entrances to University College at U of Toronto. It is actually the route from the playing field which I showed a couple of days ago. I love the contrast between the wonderful 1960s gate and the 1890s cloister of UC.

Canadian Eggs

No imported eggs at Tim Horton's it seems. Those breakfast sandwiches are quite tasty.

The Whole Mural

This is the whole mural that has been being painted for more than 2 months now. The day after I took this shot the painters were applying a sealing coat to the mural so it is now finished. It gets a lot of attention as you can imagine as everyone is trying to figure out what it is.

Mural Update

I first showed you a shot of this mural back in July (HERE) and they still continue to work on it as of last week. I still can't figure it out but supposedly it is waterlilies. Will have to see the finished piece to see that. I'll show a shot of the whole long mural tomorrow.

Cheerful

It is that wonderful time of year when the Black-eyed Susans are in flower. This large patch was just planted this spring in front of a new condo building.

Hanging In There

This bee was going from flower to flower on a tomato plant but this flower was hanging down so the bee had to get its wings going a mile a minute to hang upside down. I love its little furry head.

Craft Brewery

Taken during a tour of a craft brewery in the Junction neighbourhood, this shows some of the large vats and equipment used in the process. It is always fascinating to see all the things and everything is so clean.

No Cranes?

It has been hot & muggy here so I haven't been out & about much so this is one from my archives taken last summer. This is the view looking across one of the playing fields at U of Toronto towards Yonge St and Bloor St, one of the main intersections in the city. I was amazed to see there were no cranes visible in this shot. I will have to go back and check the view now as there seem to be cranes everywhere.

A Truck Full Of Candies

I have never heard of these candies before but the fact that they have their own truck must mean that they are good. I've looked in a few stores but haven't found them yet.

A Fine Restoration

Every time that I go by this building on Davenport Rd I admire the wonderful restoration that has been done of this old storefront. I love that glass detailing over the entrance. The building houses the Cardinal Photography Gallery but I never seem to be there when it is open so haven't been inside.

Little Italy

Unfortunately there are always vehicles parked in front of this mural in Little Italy but you still get a good view of it. The Pylon was one of the previous names of the Royal theatre which I showed you last Wednesday. The artist for this one is SumArtist.

T'Bird

I loved the 2-seater Thunderbirds from the 50s and the models from 2002 to 2005 weren't bad either. Red would be nice.

A Little Damaged

This poor Black Swallowtail Butterfly has had the bottom edge of one of its wings damaged but it didn't seem to be bothering it as it flew around my roof deck going from plant to plant before settling down in some sunshine. We have had some heavy rain storms which may have been the cause of the damage.

August Theme: Fruit

The August Theme for the City Daily Photo Blog community is Fruit and for this one I chose a shot from one of the corner stores in Little Italy.  They are great places to pick up fresh fruit and veggies and the prices are always good. This is a different store than the one I showed a couple of weeks ago.
