Innovation

I hadn't been down to the Queen's Park area in a while and was surprised to see this building which has replaced some very old small buildings at U of Toronto (U of T). It is the Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus and is part of U of T. I love the look of it.

Blogger has really darkened this shot. Sorry.

Deco Building

This is part of the Royal Theatre building which I showed you a few weeks ago. It was probably used as part of the theatre when it was a cinema but now houses a chicken sandwich place. Too bad they didn't do a sign with an art deco flavor to go along with the wonderful details on the building itself.

Little Italy

Unfortunately there are always vehicles parked in front of this mural in Little Italy but you still get a good view of it. The Pylon was one of the previous names of the Royal theatre which I showed you last Wednesday. The artist for this one is SumArtist.

August Theme: Fruit

The August Theme for the City Daily Photo Blog community is Fruit and for this one I chose a shot from one of the corner stores in Little Italy.  They are great places to pick up fresh fruit and veggies and the prices are always good. This is a different store than the one I showed a couple of weeks ago.

The Royal

The Royal is found on College St in Little Italy. The building was finished in 1939 and has had several names through the years as it functioned as a cinema. It is now an event space but also shows second run films and also takes part in film festivals.

An Odd Sight

This blue structure was spotted along College St in the Little Italy neighbourhood. It seemed to have nothing to do with the store to its right or the home on the left. I do like that oval window in the brick wall.

Tasty Treats

This is another shot from the Little Italy neighbourhood. There are lots of places to get tasty food along College St and this mural makes sure that you know it. The artist for this one is Julia Paliy.

Little Italy Streetscape

These are typical of the buildings found along College St in the Little Italy neighbourhood with commercial usage on the ground floor and residential above. It is such a nice scale.

Dancing With A Flag

This lovely lady dancing with a large Italian flag was spotted, suitably, on a wall in Little Italy. The artist for this one is SumArtist.

Reflecting On Hats

I loved the reflections on the window of Lilliput Hats and the nice display of summer hats for women. They also have a large assortment of hats for men.

A Place For Hats

I've always liked this sign with the woman wearing a fine hat as it advertises the location of Lilliput Hats on College St. It is a shop/studio that features traditional custom millinery but they always have a great selection of ready made hats in the store. One of their beauties lives at our place.

Greenery

Another utility box, this one found on College St in Little Italy beside a restaurant patio. It blends in quite well with the plants around it. The artist for this one is Hot Snackz.

SnackTime

This mural was spotted on the side of a shop near the U of T campus which serves light snacks and treats and obviously caters to the student population. I loved the patterns from the shadows made by the metal stairs. The artist for this one is Kiki, I think.

Great Entrance

This is the entrance to the Lillian H Smith Branch of the Toronto Public Library. It was built in 1995 and is a standout along College St. The library has a huge collection of rare and notable modern children's book as well as an extensive collection of science fiction and fantasy. Those creatures are real attention getters.

Heart

This wonderful sign is found along College St in the middle of Little Italy. I like all of the multi language words that are all so positive.

Chicken On The Road

At first glance from down the street this looked like an abstract mural but as I got closer I could see the great chicken. And then it became clear that he was crossing the road in front of one of our streetcars. The artist for this one is Colin Tea who often includes streetcars in his murals.

Clouds

I love that someone painted this wall blue with wonderful clouds. This is the service and garbage area behind some restaurants on College St in Little Italy, an area that would normally look rather dismal. Now it looks a bit special.

Hello

I spotted this woman with the nice greeting on a corner in Little Italy. We all can use a bit of pleasant welcoming these days. The artist for this one is Vivian Rosas and it was done in 2019.

Still In Lockdown

This is the Cafe Diplomatico, one of Toronto's most loved restaurants and patios. It has been a mainstay on College St since 1968 and in nice weather it is hard to get a seat out on that patio. We are in lockdown until June 2 and so this view on a recent Sunday is not about to change until at least then. So many places are closing for good.

View From The Back

This is a recent pic of the building I showed you yesterday and you can see that the wooden surfaces that are black have been repainted or stained. It is a nice looking building and judging by all the doors and decks it may now have at least 3 different apartments in there. I quite like it.
