Finding A Tasty Morsel

I spotted this squirrel helping itself to bits of pumpkin that he has bitten off from around the cut-outs of the Jack-o-lantern.  By the time he is through there may be a totally different expression on Jack.

A Bit of Autumn Brightness

When the mums come out for sale you know that fall has arrived. I bought this huge mum about a month ago and it has provided a happy jolt of brightness each day out on the deck.

Reinforcement

While walking along in the financial district I spotted this heavy duty structure which has been erected up against the facade of a building which has had the rest of it torn down. I assume another condo is under construction and the facade of the old building will be incorporated into the new one. That is certainly a lot of steel that they used!

Camera Love

While wandering around in the financial district I spotted this great sign. I know nothing about the 500 PX company but apparently it is a global online photo sharing platform.

More Whales

This is the other side of yesterday's utility box showing us yet more whales needing to be saved.

Save The Whales

I spotted this painted utility box in the Annex neighbourhood and was happy to see it bringing attention to such an important cause as saving the whales. The artist signature says Alexart. I will show you the other side tomorrow.

Colourful Ceiling

It is such a wonderful time of year to be walking under the trees on a clear day and look up to see a sight like this.

Looking For Trouble

At this time of year the squirrels seem to be very busy rummaging around in gardens looking for treats to eat or hide away for winter. This guy had his eye on some tomatoes but he changed his mind when he saw me.

Dreaming Reflection

I spotted this reflection of Dreaming across the road from it and couldn't resist a shot. And of course I also caught the intrepid photographer.

Change Of View

As you walk around the  Dreaming sculpture the perspective really changes and when you view it from the front it becomes quite flattened. The effect is rather dreamlike as you circle around it.

Dreaming

This is the sign that goes with yesterday's sculpture by Jaume Plensa. It gives you a bit more info on the piece. I will give you another view tomorrow.

New Sculpture In Town

The reason I was wandering about downtown was to see this sculpture that has been newly installed in the financial district. Called 'Dreaming', it is by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa whose work I have loved ever since seeing a major show of his at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in England several years ago. This lovely head is 8 metres tall and is made of resin and marble dust. I'll show more the next couple of days.

There Is A Story There

During a wander downtown last weekend I spotted this lovely mural along Adelaide St W but could find no artist name on it.  I'm sure there is a lovely story behind the images but I have no idea what it is.

The Scene of Yesterday's Action

This house was the object of yesterday's woodpecker's attention. He was pecking away at the wood just to the left of the top point in this pic. You can just make out a little lump on the wood which is the bird. I have no idea what the homeowners can do to prevent more damage.

The Vandal

I was out for a walk and could hear a woodpecker from 1/2 a block away as it banged away at something.  I finally spotted this Downy Woodpecker hard at work looking for a bite to eat. I'll show you where it was tomorrow.

Autumn Colour

Maple trees give us the most beautiful show of colour in the fall. This is always one of the first ones to change every year.

A Sunnybrook Rose

This is one of the Sunnybrook roses which was referenced in yesterday's post. There were actually a few of them blooming even though we have had some cool nights. No frost yet though.

A Special Gift

This sign is found out in front of the Veterans Centre at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre paying tribute to the hospital and to White Rose Nurseries for their gift of a special rose. When I went by last week the roses were still blooming and I will show you one tomorrow.

Tennis In Fall

Autumn is a wonderful time to play tennis on a sunny day. I spotted a tennis class in session near St Clair Ave on a perfect fall day. And there was lots of space for social distancing.

Lovely Lady

I am continuing with the murals by indigenous artists which I have been showing for the last few Mondays. This lovely lady in purple was done by artist Keitha Keeshig Tobias who has done a lot of work around town. This one is down below in the walk through of the community centre and so has the painted ceiling as an accompaniment.

The Swing

I spotted this wonderful old-fashioned swing in the front garden of a house up near Casa Loma and thought that it was a nice reminder of simpler times.

Mechanic's Dog

This sweet dog belongs to the mechanic who I showed you in the Camaro on Thursday. Her name is Lola and she may look tough but she is quite gentle.

Casa In Autumn

I hadn't been by Casa Loma for a while but went past a week ago and was amazed to see it without the usual hordes of tourists around the entrance. The whole area was looking lovely with the flowers glowing in the autumn sunshine.

Cool Ride

This 1968 Camaro was being backed into the local mechanic's shop when I spotted it and the mechanic kindly stopped so that I could take a pic. This is a car that had been on my wish list in the day.

Purple

First a beige building started to turn purple and then a few days later a sign went up. Another cannabis shop opening in town!

Another Wychwood Park Garden

I showed you one of the back gardens from the Wychwood Park neighbourhood a couple of weeks ago and when taking pics of the houses that I showed you the last few days I took a shot of this one too. Because there are no fences you get a nice view into the yards and you can see the nice stone steps that they have leading up to the roadway. This was taken just before any of the leaves started to turn colour.

White Buffalo

This is the other half of the mural which I showed you last Monday by artist Philip Cote. The mural is split in two by a walkway leading into the building. I quite like the graphics on this buffalo.

Arts & Crafts In Wychwood Park

This is the next door neighbour of the house that I showed you on Friday and it is typical of the homes in the Wychwood Park neighbourhood. Almost every house in the area is built in the Arts & Craft style like this one. Lovely isn't it?

Friends On A Log

The pond in Wychwood Park is right across the road from yesterday's house but it is surrounded by a lot of bushes which gives it a very wild feeling. While walking around it I spotted these two turtles doing some social distancing while enjoying some sunshine.

FLW In Wychwood Park

This is one of the newer homes in the Wychwood Park neighbourhood, possibly the newest. It was built several years ago and was inspired by the designs of Frank Lloyd Wright. I will show you a more typical Wychwood house on Sunday.

October Theme Day: My Respnse To Covid 19

The theme days for the City Daily Photo Blog community have been rescued and so here we go again. This month's theme is "My Response To Covid 19" and for this I offer a selection of some of my masks and of course some sanitizing wipes. All of these things have become a part of regular life these days. A big thanks to Bob from St Louis for starting the themes up again.
