Ready For The Big Night

There is an apartment building in the Annex neighbourhood that goes all out for Halloween each year. This is just part of their display and on the big night they usually have sound effects and a fog machine as well as lots of the residents dressed up in costumes. It is a great hit with the kids.

Vibrant Colours

I spotted this wonderful mural on a garage during a long walk and can't remember where it was. The artist's name for this beauty is R. Cortez. I wonder if there are more details to be added to the face but would think that once it is signed it is finished.

Fall Colours

It's the red Maples that really stop you in your tracks at this time of year although when the Gingkos all turn bright yellow overnight that is also a sight to behold. In the meantime this Maple in a local park was a beauty.

Life

I was getting into my car when I heard Blue Jays screeching and squirrels doing their danger call so looked up and could see the Red-Tail Hawk in the shadows up in a tree. The Blue Jays then decided to attack the hawk which flew off with something in its claws. When I got home and photo shopped the shot I could see that the hawk had a poor little squirrel. That's life I guess but sad.

Along A Creek

This was taken a few days before I took the shot of the Maple tree which I showed yesterday. I had gone down by a local creek hoping to see some colour change but had no luck. I still like watching the water flowing by anyway.

Finally Some Colour

I have finally started to see some beautifully bright red Maple trees.  And with the sun out this one was glowing.

Please Help

Spotted this sign in a local park. Litter seems to be such a problem in some areas so let's hope a reminder helps.

A Mystery

I was walking across a bridge over one of the creeks in the city when I noticed this woman further along the creek. I zoomed in with my camera to see what she was doing. I had thought that maybe she was catching something but it seemed that she was rinsing out piles of plastic shopping bags. I have no idea what that could be all about. It is a real mystery.

Neighbours

The neighbours along this laneway got together to hire an artist and had their garages painted with these bright murals that all sort of flow together. The artist name is Nixostreetart. The guy on the bike photobombed the shot but I liked it.

Willow

I thought this willow tree was looking rather regal when I saw it glowing in the sunshine a week ago. They are such stately trees.

Catching Some Rays

These frogs were enjoying some sun to warm them up a bit on a coolish day. The pond they are in is large and has water flowing through it so they will be fine for the winter but until then it can be a bit uncomfortable for them.

The Holdout

When I first started posting about the large development on the old Honest Ed's site I mentioned that there was one building owner along Bathurst St who refused to sell his property. Now a couple of years later you can see the holdout brown building in the midst of the mostly white structures around it. It is nice that they didn't put any of the really tall towers right beside it. I did notice that the store in the building is moving around the corner to Bloor St though.

Stuck To Their Phones

Sometimes it feels like everyone outside on the street has their nose stuck to a phone. These people waiting for a bus on a nice autumn day were totally engrossed in their phones and unaware of everything around them. That is the wonderful stone wall that surrounds Casa Loma behind them.

Hola

I like the fact that the Spanish Bookstore has a nice presence on Bathursr St even when closed with its roll-up  guard in place. The subtle reference to Don Quixote is nice too.

An Eclectic Mix

I was in one of the many local craft breweries and really enjoyed looking at the shelves that lined their walls. There was so much interesting stuff from different time periods. This is just a small part of the collection.

Contented Cat

Not far from last week's dog mural I spotted this garage with a contented cat waiting to greet people. The artist name for this one says natalieveryB.

A Bit Of Autumn Colour

I decided to head down to one of our ravines that crisscross the city to see if there was much colour change on the trees. There was little change down in the ravine but a bit was happening beside the track heading down to it.

Foiled Again

I was walking along a street and noticed some activity on a lawn across the road. This hawk had attempted to grab a black squirrel but the squirrel was having none of it and ran under some bushes. The hawk landed on a fence and looked a bit embarrassed and sat for a long time. I think it is a Coopers Hawk but I'm no expert.

Cloud

I really liked the look of this cloud as it traveled across the sky. It looked like it had an important mission somewhere else.

In The Coutyard

This sculpture was spotted in a courtyard outside of a gallery in the Yorkville neighbourhood. The artist is Willy Verginer and it is titled The Infinite Game. I'm not sure what it means but I like it.

They've Landed

This is a storefront on Bathurst St that is targeted towards kids and has a huge variety of books, comics, games, etc. It looks like a fun place with lots of stuff going on.

Pretty Pink

There are still a few scattered Echinecea  flowers around although most have them have now gone to seed. These two were a lovely shade of soft pink.

Howling At The Moon

I love this mural with all the dogs howling at the moon while one of them pretends to be the cow from the nursery rhymes. The artist for this one is Candypress.

A Cool Ride

I spotted this 1974 MG outside a local pub and stopped to admire it. It had Price Edward Island licence plates so it was a long way from home as PEI is one of our eastern maritime provinces. It would be a great ride to take in this car.

Sunbathing Fish

It was a coolish fall day but the sun was strong when I happened upon these goldfish in one of the ponds at James Gardens.  The fish were totally still in the water and seemed to be enjoying the warmth of the sun on their backs.

The View

This view looks across the playing field of Central Technical School up towards the construction of all those apartment on the old Honest Ed's site at Bathurst and Bloor St. You can see yesterday's church/theatre building beside the towers. I liked the view and the fact that all the towers are a bit different from each other. The complex includes a market and other neighbourhood friendly things like a community centre.

Theatre In A Church Building

This is the Randolph Theatre which is located on Bathurst St near the Honest Ed's apartment tower construction site which I showed you on Tuesday. Built in 1888, the church was converted into a theatre in 1985 and the Randolph College For The Performing Arts is part of the theatre complex.

The Food Must Be Good

It seems that the sign doesn't lie as there was a lineup to get into Yummy Korean Restaurant on Bloor St in Koreatown. It was a nice day so lots of people were out wandering and enjoying the weather.

Photobombed

I was trying to get a shot of some of the towers going up on the old Honest Ed's site but found it impossible to get a clear shot with no wires or streetlights and then a streetcar rolled through the picture. Sometimes you can't win.

In The Pink

I spotted this lovely fairy along a laneway. It was a bit of a dull day but she certainly cheered things up. She seems to be in deep thought. The name at the bottom was Anastasia Eve.

October Theme: Transportation

The October theme for the City Daily Photo Blog community is Transportation and for this one I offer a shot of one of our streetcars as it heads down Bathurst St. Our transit system, the TTC, transports many thousands of people each day and the streetcars are a vital part of that transportation.
