Happy Halloween

This is an old one from my archives. That domed roof was from an old observatory on the U of Toronto campus. The building became the Student Union building but I'm not sure what its use is now. The domed roof regularly was a target of graffiti artists and this was one of the best examples of that. In the pic we are walking behind University College and getting a great peek of the Jack-0-Lantern.

Busy At The Market

It is a busy time of year at the many farmers' markets that take place all over the city. The apple harvest is a big draw as well as the many types of squash and pumpkins.

The Gallery Watchdog

This cute pup was in the window of the Cardinal Gallery which I showed during the past week. He just stayed on a nice cushion and watched me as I walked around and took pics. I have to make a point of going back when the gallery is open to visit with him and view the photos too.

More Red

I was driving past Prospect Cemetery and saw these Maple trees looking so glorious that I turned around and went into the cemetery to admire them. It is a huge cemetery first opened in 1890 in a location outside of the city but it is now right in the middle of the city running from St Clair Ave all the way up to Eglinton Ave.

Flowers In Fall

These large planters of fall flowers were spotted on the U of Toronto campus and they looked so luscious that I had to stop for a shot. The last hurrah before our flowers are done for the season.

That Gets Attention

This cannabis shop has had a purple facade since opening and they have now added this coat of very bright paint to the sides. There will be no missing this place as you pass along on Bathurst St.

Many Uses

This building on Bloor St W is now part of U of Toronto but it was built in 1909 by the Meteorological Service Of Canada as their headquarters. It was purchased by U of T in 1971 and was used as its Admissions & Awards building. In 2010 it was taken over by the Munk School of Global Affairs as they expanded on the campus. The building was totally restored and renovated before reopening in January of 2012. It is gorgeous inside.

Monarchs In A Mural

When they had the mural event in the Yorkville neighbourhood during the summer there were large permanent murals on some walls but also a lot of smaller murals set up as temporary displays. This one of monarchs was done by the artist Sage Szkabarnicki-Stuart. Love those butterflies.

Tough Flowers

Some of my Marigolds are still hanging in despite some cool nights and not so warm days. This colour combination seems to be the hardiest variety I have.

Asleep On One Foot

When I took yesterday's shot I was heading to James Gardens to catch the ducks with autumn colours around them. When I got there the ducks had flown off somewhere so I am showing this shot taken a few weeks ago. The ducks were all sleeping many of them sleeping while standing on one foot.

Colour At The Park

Just after I took the shot I showed you yesterday I continued  on my journey and ended up at James Gardens where it was still raining a bit. This view is almost the same one as I showed a couple of weeks ago with the geese all over the lawn. The trees were putting on a great show of colour even without sunshine.

Maple Beauty

I was driving along in a light rain and was passing this park when I spotted these Maple trees aglow. I pulled over and got out to catch a shot. There was another woman there taking pics too. The colours were amazing. I can only imagine how they would look in sunshine.

The Cardinal Sign

I really like the sign they have at the Cardinal Gallery so thought that I had better show it. That is a fine looking bird don't you think?

The Gallery

This is a shot of the Cardinal Gallery on Davenport Rd. I showed the mural on its side yesterday. It was an old store that has been lovingly restored including keeping that beautiful glass draping over the front entrance. I have never been by when it is open but will have to make a point of going there to see one of the photography shows.

A Cardinal

This mural recently appeared on the side of a photography gallery on Davenport Rd. The gallery is called the Cardinal Gallery so this stylized Cardinal is perfect for it. The artist for this one is Arlin Graff.

Bending A Rail

When I visited the open house at the TTC yards a few weeks ago they took us through all the buildings and showed us all of the wonderful machinery they have for keeping out streetcars, buses, and subways rolling. This machine was really fascinating as it used large strong rollers to bend straight streetcar rails  into nice curves for the cars to turn corners. You can see one of the bent ones off to the right.

Singing

This little bird was singing away for ages but never left the comfort of that tree so I never got a clear view of it. I'm guessing it was a Song Sparrow but am not sure. It was a beautiful tune.

Going Electric

This is one of the new models of electric buses that the TTC is slowly bringing into their fleet of vehicles. I like the streamlined look of them.

Memories

This is another of the older streetcars that was at the Open House at the TTC yard a few weeks ago. These are the ones I remember from when I was a kid bringing back sweet memories of heading off on a shopping trip with my mum.

Enter Here

This is the front and the entrance door to the old streetcar which I showed you yesterday. I love the old signage in gold lettering.

An Old Ride

I went to an Open House at the TTC yards a few weeks ago and they were using this old streetcar from 1923 to give people free rides from the subway station at Bathurst St. I'll show you another view tomorrow.

Another Yorkville Mural

This long mural runs along a walkway that runs above a restaurant patio in the Yorkville neighbourhood. I looked everywhere on it but could find no artist name. I like all the rich colours.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadians.

Faculty Of Law

This is Flavelle House which is the heart of the law faculty at U of Toronto. The house was built in 1902 as a private home for Joseph Flavelle and his family and when he died in 1939 he left the house to the university which had been growing up around it. Over the years there have been numerous large additions to the rear of the building although the house itself has heritage protection.

Afternoon At The Park

The geese are all gathering probably getting ready for a nice trip down south for the winter. This was the view at James Gardens a couple of weeks ago as they fattened up on grass. You really have to watch where you walk to avoid getting really messy shoes.

Colourful Playground

I really liked the colours used on this playground equipment in a small parkette in the Annex neighbourhood. It all looks so safety conscious as well. It makes you wonder how we all survived our childhood on metal equipment and with no padding on the ground.

A Band

This band was set up at one of the recent street events in the city. They must have been paid by the organizers as they were not collecting money. It is great to have live music on the streets.

A Little Sewing To Be Done

This is the part of the mural to the right of Monday's shot. I like how the artist has included the door into the mural and has left the original sign from the plumbing company that was in the building previously. I'm not sure what the sewing refers to but possibly there had been some clothing made here at some point in the past.

Up On The Roof

This is another section of the mural that I showed you yesterday. This part is to the left of yesterday's pic. I wish I could have got the whole thing in one shot but it was way too long. These buildings are typical of the storefronts found here. Another section of the mural tomorrow.

Tarragon Village

The artist Elicser recently completed a really long mural in the Tarragon Village neighbourhood which is a small neighbourhood named after the Tarragon Theatre which is right beside this building with the mural. The mural itself is really long so I will show you more tomorrow and the next day. Elicser has populated his mural with people showing the diversity of our city. The mural also has a Sight signature which may refer to the person who did the lettering.

Guardian Lion

This is one of a pair of marble Chinese guardian lions that are found outside one of the entrances to the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). They are from the 17th century and were obtained by the ROM in 1923. This one looks quite fierce.

October Theme: Rest, Sleep, Relaxation

The October theme for the City Daily Photo Blog community is all about rest and for this theme I offer these 3 ducks who were having a very relaxing sleep at James Gardens. They look like they have got not a care in the world.
