An Annex Pub

The Victory Cafe has been around the Annex neighbourhood for a long time in a couple of different locations, this spot for quite a while now. This was taken early on a morning before it was open but usually at this time of year that large patio is packed. And the food is good. You can do a yoga workout upstairs after you eat.

Crafty On Bloor

The Crafty Coyote is a pub found on Bloor St W in the Annex neighbourhood. I have always liked the building with those little cupolas on the roof. There must be interesting space up on that top floor.

An Irish Pub

There seem to be a lot of Irish pubs in Old Quebec City which I guess isn't surprising when one thinks of all the Irish people who landed there in the 1800s and have assimilated into the French culture. I did try out this Pub St-Patrick. Once again Blogger  has really darkened this pic.

A Pub

Walking through a pub to get out to their patio I thought how nice it would be to have a meal in there on a cold winter day. They even had a wood-fired pizza oven which is visible a bit at the back.

July Theme: Bubbles

The July theme for the City Daily Photo Blog community is Bubbles and for this one I offer this cold pint of beer with a nice bunch of bubbles up top.

Pub On Bloor St

I had shown a shot of the patio of Paupers Pub back in the winter and thought that I should show you the front of this fine old building which at one time had been a bank. Paupers has been there for many years now and even has a great deck up on the roof.

Patio In Winter

This pub on Bloor St in the Annex neighbourhood had all of its patio lights lit up but I think it will be a couple of months before anyone is sitting out there.  This pub is in a grand old bank building and also has a patio up on the roof. It has been there a long time.

More On The Gem

In December there was the horrible news on the radio that there had been a fire at The Gem. The building didn't look bad and everyone hoped that it would soon reopen but in March the longtime owner announced that it was closed for good. The end of an era. This is how the front looks today although if you peek through some of the window coverings much work is being done inside so maybe something else will become a landmark in the area.

The Gem

This is the sign from The Gem which was a great small place on Davenport Rd which at one point in my life I visited several times a week. It was full of eclectic things and friendly regulars and they would always whip up something from the kitchen for you even after service was finished for the day. I'll tell you a bit more about the place tomorrow.

Saturday Night

Things seem to be finally getting back towards normal at the local pub with more people in and lots of people playing darts again. It has been a long road back to being able to relax a bit.

A Tavern On Bloor St

Duffy's Tavern has been on Bloor St W since 1949 but this building itself was built in the 1880s. It is a great gathering place for viewing sport events and for just chilling with friends.

Begging For A Drink

Some creatures get quite demanding out on the patio at the pub! Steamwhistle is a locally brewed Pilsner.

The Only

The Only Cafe has been on the Danforth for over 30 years and hopefully continues for many more when we get back to normal. The left side of the cafe is a great espresso bar while the middle part is the beer bar which serves an extensive variety of microbrews. They have a huge patio out back which I have enjoyed in summertime. The mural didn't seem to have a signature that I could find.

Irish Pub

I have always wanted to go into this pub, Grace O'Malleys, but so far I haven't made it and with all our bars and restaurants open only for take-out I won't be heading in for a while. One wonders how many of these places will survive these pandemic times.

Pub Sign

The Black Swan Tavern has been a fixture on the Danforth since 1972 and continues to be a great neighbourhood pub as well as a venue for live music. It is impossible to get a pic without a car parked out front but it is their great sign I wanted to show. Black swans are a bit unusual in Canada so it is nice to see this one.

Brewpub

After attending the opening of a friend's photography show we retired to a brewpub in the east end. This pub had the fermantation tanks right in the room with the seating which made for an interesting atmosphere.
I'll be back to more floats from the Santa Claus Parade tomorrow.

Upper Patio

The door from yesterday leads up to a pool hall, pub and this intriguing patio. I like how it is cut out of the building and since it faces south it would be toasty up there even on a cool day! I'm saying that the glass barricade is a fence.

A Pub Bird

The patio of one of my favourite pubs has a small community of sparrows that take care of cleaning up any crumbs that get dropped. On a recent quiet afternoon this little girl wasn't having much luck and seemed to be begging for a scrap of food. Or maybe it was the beer she was after!

Still Kicking After All These Years

This is the Brunswick House, one of the oldest pubs in the city having opened in 1876 on Bloor St in the Annex, just a few blocks from U of Toronto. The whole building was renovated and restored several years ago and it is extremely popular with the student population around it.

A Horse Is A Horse

I could find no info on this building other than the fact that it was built in 1892 and has heritage designation, but I've always loved the detail work of the bricks especially around those 3rd floor windows. The Black Horse Pub has been here as long as I can remember and I imagine they are responsible for the horse head between the 2nd floor windows. This is on Bloor St W in the same area as the last 2 days, a stretch that is undergoing a change as a lot of small galleries and restaurants that have been priced out of Queen St W are moving up here.
