Top Of The Tower?

I was wandering through the University of Toronto (U of T) campus and noticed that the CN Tower had lost its top half in the low clouds. That is all that remains just to the left of the dome of Convocation Hall. The hall was built in 1906 and is the location for all of the graduation ceremonies and other special events of the university.

From The Top Of The Stairs

When you reach the top of yesterday's stairs and turn around this is your view looking down along Spadina through the lovely trees of the annex neighbourhood and through downtown until you hit Lake Ontario.  Most of the tourists going to Casa Loma come up this way and then turn around to take this shot with the CN Tower in a starring role.

End Of Day At The Island

After a day on the Toronto Islands while waiting for the ferry to take you back to the mainland this is the view you get of downtown Toronto with the CN Tower as the star of the shot.

The View

This is the view from half way up the stairs to Casa Loma looking down over the trees of the Annex neighbourhood to the towers of downtown including the CN Tower. The woman I showed you on Tuesday was standing down on the corner to the right.

Last Theme Day: A Favourite Photo

This is the last theme day for the City Daily Photo Blog community and the topic chosen is a favourite pic that you have previously posted. I have chosen this one from 2016 for several reasons. I like the image of the woman herself and also the CN tower in the background sets the stage as being in Toronto. Also the location is at the top of the stairs leading up to Casa Loma which is a favourite place for me to wander. I will miss these theme days a lot!

Partly Open

This is an archive shot looking towards downtown from the top of the steps at Casa Loma. This week Toronto entered stage 2 of the openings since covid hit us which means people can get their hair cut and go to restaurant patios. I'm going to stay isolated for a little longer!

Autumn In The Annex

I took this pic about a week ago from half way up the stairs at Casa Loma looking down over the Annex neighbourhood towards Lake Ontario. The CN Tower is about 6 miles away from where I was at the time.

Towers

While wandering around the U of Toronto campus I stopped to take a pic of the Soldiers' Tower at Hart House and found that I was photo-bombed by the CN Tower visible from down by Lake Ontario. The Soldiers' Tower was built to commemorate the members of the university who gave up their lives in the two World Wars and has their names listed as well as a carillon up top.

On The Ferry

This pic was taken about 20 minutes after yesterday's pic as we headed across the Toronto Harbour back to downtown. I couldn't resist showing another skyline shot!

Waiting For The Ferry

At the end of my evening on the Toronto Islands I waited for the ferry to arrive as the sun was heading down and the clouds were rolling in. It did start to rain later just as I was pulling into my garage. The ferry that came was too full to fit everyone so we all had to wait about 30 minutes until it came back for us.

Hello There!

In many parts of Ward's Island you are wandering on very narrow tree lined streets and it is easy to forget that you are so close to downtown Toronto and then you walk out to an open space like this playing field and there it is - the CN Tower peeking across the harbour. I'll show you the 180˚ view tomorrow.

View From The Island

This is the view looking across the harbour from the ferry dock at Ward's Island. You can see a bit of the dock off to the right in the pic. As you can see it was a cloudy night with the threat of thunder storms all around us but we were lucky and stayed dry.

Photo Shoot

While heading up the steep stairs that lead to Casa Loma I came upon this photo shoot. The guy on the right was shooting the fellow on the left in various poses including having him climb up to the top of that pillar he is leaning on. The other fellow seemed to be an assistant. I'm not sure what the pics were for.

Looking South

Last week I showed a few views from the top of the Physics Building at U of Toronto but I didn't show the view due south because of the large chimney from the central steam plant of the university. I did want to show you the CN Tower and the edge of Lake Ontario behind the lakeshore condo towers so just try to ignore the chimney. In this view we are looking down past College St., Queen St W., and King St to the lake.

The Season Begins

This was taken late last Sunday afternoon the first weekend the outdoor rinks were open in the city. This rink at Christie Pits Park is a very popular one but this pic was taken just before the break for dinner so there was lots of room on the ice. And of course we are photo-bombed by the CN Tower which is several miles away.

View From The Casa Stairs

This is the view from the top of the stairs leading up to Casa Loma, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. It is a great view and hundreds of pics are taken of it each day. We see the CN Tower towards the left and looking straight down Spadina Rd in the middle of the pic you can see a bit of Lake Ontario peeking through. And of course all of the trees in the Annex neighbourhood as well as the towers of the financial district.

Flatiron Building

I thought I would give you an idea of where the park I have been showing all week is located. The park is directly behind the Flatiron Building that is visible in the centre of this pic and the mural I showed on Monday is on the back wall of the building. It is a popular backdrop for pics like for the 2 ladies in the foreground. And of course we have the CN Tower peeking at us.

Hazy Skyline

It was a hazy, humid day when I took this pic from the north end of the city looking towards downtown and Lake Ontario. It is interesting how the distant towers are so muted. They are about 10 miles away from where the pic was taken.

Room With A View

This pic was taken from the 12th floor of a building in the northern part of the city probably about 10 miles from the CN Tower which you can see in the distance where it sits by Lake Ontario. It was a clear day so you can actually see a bit of the lake peeking out.

It's Everywhere!

It is hard to escape the CN Tower in the city since it is so tall and is located at the shore of Lake Ontario and the city basically goes uphill away from the lake. So when you are on the edge of one of our bigger hills like this one you can see rooftops and the Tower peeking at you from miles away!
