This is the main building belonging to the Toronto French School which is a private, co-ed, bilingual school located on Lawrence Ave E. This building was constructed as a residence in 1922 by the Sifton family and was known as Sifton Manor. It was purchased by the school in 1962 and is one of several buildings on the large property. It is unusual to see it without a lot of people milling about.
I have shown you a few of the small apartment buildings along Lawrence Ave E in the Lawrence Park neighbourhood before and thought I would show this one with its Tudor styling. It is hard to tell how many units are in it but there are two entrances, one on each side of that projecting section. There may be only 4 units which must each be a nice size.
This another of the small apartments on Lawrence Ave E that all seem to have the same configuration but different decorations. Tudor seems to be the influence for this one.
This is the back of the George H Locke Memorial Branch of the Toronto Public Library located at Yonge St & Lawrence Ave. I will have to get a pic of the front one day when traffic is sparse but this back part is actually nicer with the big windows and the curved wall. George Locke was the chief librarian for the city from 1908 to 1937 and when this was built after the war in 1949 the decision was made to name it after him.
I'm not sure if it is just me but I would want to match those shutters more to the colour of the doors. This is another of the row of dwellings along Lawrence Ave in the Lawrence Park neighbourhood like the one I showed you yesterday. Not sure what you would call this style.
I showed you a building similar to this in January (HERE) and mentioned that there was a row of these buildings of a same scale but each a different design. Well I went back and took pics of them all and will show you a couple today & tomorrow and the others later. This one has a bit of a Tudor style to it which is suitable to this Lawrence Park neighbourhood. More green doors tomorrow.
On Lawrence Ave East in the Lawrence Park neighbourhood there is a row of buildings of this size but all of a different style. I like the Tudor styling of this one and particularly like the red doors. I'm not sure but I think each half of the house is duplexed.
This is the last section of the mural on Lawrence Ave that I have been showing for the last several weeks. The artists Shalak, Smoky & Fiya did such a wonderful job on it even though it was hard to interpret some of the sections. I think there is one bit that I missed so I will have to go back on a nice day to catch it!

I am still working on showing you the extremely long mural on Lawrence Ave W and there is one more part to see after this. I could find no info on the artists' reasoning for the pyramids and the interesting assortment of animals around them but I quite like the effect and it is interesting to see the buildings up above the piece.

This is the last scary bit from the Lawrence Ave mural that I have been showing you for the last several Mondays. The artists say that it is meant to represent the animals that have passed away due to the mining and fossil fuel industries. Next week we will be on to the last few sections that are quite positive. I liked the juxtaposition of the apartment building up above the mural with the scene below.

The Lawrence Ave mural moves into the scary parts as we go along to the left. We have left the peace of the sea and entered the city which then becomes industrialized and produces air pollution and finally the city seems to be tilting and falling into disrepair. I wonder if the people in the house visible above this section were some of the ones who complained about the mural?

We are just past half way along this mural on Lawrence Ave by Shalak, Smoky, & Fiya and we still haven't reached the parts that some people found to be a bit scary. Here we are under the sea with a wonderful whale swimming past to lead us further along the wall.

This is probably my favourite part of the Lawrence Ave mural with the colourful lady and fox looking up at the night sky while the old man's cup seems to be the source of magical lights. The figure fishing in the globe is perfect! It is hard to know which artist did which parts of the mural - Shalak, Smoky or Fiya.

The next section of the Lawrence Ave mural features a wise owl who the artists say "is a creature of the night, and in this sense connects us to the world of dreams and otherworldliness". As we keep moving left into the woods you can see the surreal magical world emerging. Love the owl! I still have several more sections from this mural to show you over the next weeks.

This is the next section of the mural which I started to show you last week. The polar bears have evolved into a brown bear wandering in a lush forest but there seems to be a strange orb rising from the water! You can see some of the scary bits starting to surface now. Great work by Shalak Attack, Smoky, and Fiya. There is always a lot of traffic here so pardon the vehicle

A mural was completed this fall on Lawrence Ave in the northwest part of the city and it has to be the longest one I have ever seen so I am going to show sections of it over the next several Mondays. I watched the artists, Shalak Attack, Bruno Smoky, and Fiya Bruxa working on it for many weeks as I drove by. This easterly section shows the very vulnerable iceworld that is so threatened by climate change and the bears themselves seem to be evolving as we move from right to left across the pic. When the mural was completed there were some complaints made to the city about it being scary and a public meeting was held where the overwhelming response was positive so it will remain intact. I'll show the next section next week.
