Escaped From A Lab

I was surprised to come upon these fellows outside a building on University Ave where all the major hospitals are located. I thought the stools were a nice touch. I'll show you that sign in the right background tomorrow which will explain who these guys are.

An Acrobat

This sculpture by Nicole Taillon brought Cirque Du Soleil to my mind.  The figure looks like one of their acrobats or clowns don't you think?

Beads

"Remembering Through Beads" by First Nation artist Ludovic Boney references the wampum beads that First Nation peoples used for trading and recording history & events. This piece was located at a high park overlooking the St Lawrence River.

A Boy With Bears

This boy with his teddy bears was spotted in the front garden of a home that had been converted from a monastery to a house. The artist is Willie Verginer.  I hope the bears can count as creatures for Saturday's Critters.

Elephant In The Room

I spotted this piece, with the title Elephant In The Room, in a gallery and couldn't resist a pic of the huge elephant crammed into the small room with even its own chair. I've always liked that expression.

Good Catch

I spotted this sculpture by artist Patrick Amiot a few weeks ago in the Yorkville neighbourhood. I really like his fun sculptures and you can see more if you click on the Amiot label below. This guy looks so pleased with his catch.

Origami?

I spotted this large blue creature in the Yorkville neighbourhood. It looks like origami on a large scale and made of steel rather than paper. There was no info about it but I think it is by the artist Hacer. I like the addition of the bird up top.

"Table Of Love"

I posted this sculpture a long time ago and went back recently for another look. The artists for this are Gillie and Marc and features their Rabbitwoman and Dogman having a romantic meal. I really like it and we have a local law firm to thank for having it installed outside their offices in the Yorkville neighbourhood.

Birds On Bloor

All along Bloor St in the Yorkville neighbourhood the large planter boxes have been planted up with flowers which are colour coordinated to match the birds that live in each planter. I liked these colours best.

Hockey Playoffs

It is playoff season for the NHL so this sculpture by artist Patrick Amiot was quite suitable when it was displayed outside a gallery in the Yorkville neighbourhood. All the sports bars are happy this week.

Dog On High

I  thought that I would give you an idea of how tall the posts were that supported yesterday's dog sculpture by Stephen Cruise. You can see another of the sculptures, this one a chicken, in the background. The posts must be at least 25 ft tall or possibly more.

Sweet Pup

This is one of several sculptures by artist Stephen Cruise that are on tall posts running along beside the streetcar right of way along Spadina Ave south of Bloor St. I have always liked this one and have enjoyed watching the patina develop over the years. I'll show you its location tomorrow.

Leaves

A rare pleasant day called for a walk so I headed out for a bit. Walking along Bloor St W at Spadina I spotted these metal leaves attached to the grates over a ventilation shaft for the subway. I loved that someone thought of this and how it changed the whole atmosphere of the area from boring to something special. I couldn't find an artist signature.

Art In Merida

The railway museum in Merida Mexico has a temporary space that features various exhibits. While I was there the exhibit was a show of work by local artist Marcela Diaz who was born in Merida and has shown work worldwide. Her work mainly consists  of large textile sculptures  made with native Yucatan plants such as henequen (sisal). She often features feminine symbols such as these crocheted dresses. I like her work.

Sphere

This large sphere was spotted outside of a small building that is being converted to condos. I really like it. It looks like it may have a light inside but I am rarely in this area after dark to check it out.

Elephant

It has been quite cold here so I was looking for indoor shots and found this cool steel elephant and its nice shadow.

Giant Cone

I have spotted a couple of these giant pine cone sculptures in front gardens but have no idea who the artist is. This one was in a tiny garden in front of an old Victorian home and it looked perfect there.

Friends

I spotted this pair of friends outside of a gallery in the Yorkville neighbourhood which shows the work of junk artist Patrick Amiot so I am sure it is one of his pieces. Amiot constructs the pieces and his wife Brigitte Laurent paints them. Click on the Amiot label to see more.
