That Looks Painful

There is no mistaking what this sign is advertising and it certainly wouldn't be easy to miss it.

Coming To The End Of Tulip Time

There are still a few tulips around in shady spots that have stayed cool but we are getting to the end of them. I though this little group looked very elegant against the green foliage behind them.

SnackTime

This mural was spotted on the side of a shop near the U of T campus which serves light snacks and treats and obviously caters to the student population. I loved the patterns from the shadows made by the metal stairs. The artist for this one is Kiki, I think.

Pink Lovelies

These beautiful Redbud trees were spotted on the U of T campus. It seems that one result of global warming is that we are getting some species of plants that couldn't survive our winters before but now are becoming more & more common here.

Excuse Me Please

I was trying to walk along a pathway at James Gardens but my way was blocked by a large group of ducks who were not interested in moving at all. I worked my way through without stepping on any feet and they never made a sound.

Knox College

While passing through the U of T campus I got this shot of the entrance to Knox College from the St George St side. If you click on the Knox label below you can see shots I have taken through the years including one of this entrance when the trees were not so large. The inside of the college is spectacular in its Gothic details. I must go back for a walkabout again.

Rocky Walk

When I was walking through the U of T campus I couldn't help but notice that there seemed to be large rocks positioned along a lot of the sidewalks. These seem to be a new addition and one wonders if they are for decoration or for security reasons to stop any potential vehicular attacks. It is a strange world these days.

A Cool Afternoon

I wandered through the U of T campus on a cool Mother's Day afternoon and was surprised to see people actually sitting out under the umbrellas near the chemistry building. This road was closed off to traffic years ago and is a popular gathering place during the week. Those signs on the wall of the building are old alchemy symbols which seems suitable for a chemistry building.

Relaxing At The Park

I walked by this park early on a Sunday and there were only a few people around but when I came back by later in the afternoon this was the sight. This couple had brought their hammocks to the park and found the most perfect trees to act as anchors. What could be better?

In The Neighbourhood

While wandering a laneway in the neighbourhood I happened upon this quiet mural. It seems to show end of day after time spent biking around town. The seasons seem to change as you move through the tree from left to right. I could see no artist name but there was a date from 2022.

Last Magnolia Of The Season

This tree is always late to flower and so is one of the last flowering Magnolias around. It is a small tree but it has the largest flowers.

Lunchtime

This black squirrel was spotted in a local park having a bit to eat at lunchtime. He seemed to be ignoring everyone around him so the food must have been tasty. I like the white tip on the end of his tail.

Another Garden Memory

This terra cotta bunny sat in my mum's garden for many years and now it spends summers in the tiny patch of green landscape that I have. It is nice to look out and see it.

Another Entrance

Most of the laneway houses are built on narrow lots and have replaced smallish garages. This one was built on a wider lot and so there was space to make a nice entrance way while the usual entrance for these is a door directly out onto the lane. This one looks so nice in comparison. There is still always a vehicle parked in front.

Hot Dog

This shot was taken early on a Sunday morning so there were few people around in Koreatown along Bloor St but later in the day there will be crowds of people going in and out of this place having Korean style hot dogs. They seem to have several types of rice fillings which are then coated in a batter and then deep-fried before being coated  in various condiments. I think I am going to have to try one.

Pretty Pink

Most of the Magnolia trees have finished flowering but there are a few like this one that are late bloomers. It helps to keep the beauty around a bit longer.

Laneway Birds

We finally got some days without rain and as I wandered down one of my usual laneway haunts I was surprised to come across this great mural by Nick Sweetman. Painted on the gates into someone's backyard parking spot they look so welcoming.

The View

I liked the way this arched walkway framed the view through to the house on the street behind. The arched passageway was found at a local church with the church on the right side and the rectory on the left. I love a nice arch like this one.

Noisy Fellow

I was walking along in a wooded area near the Humber River when I heard some loud tapping and thought that it must be one of the big woodpeckers but it turned out to be this little Downy male who was having a grand time looking for food. I finally managed to get a shot of him sitting still after just missing several other shots.

Elegance

This elegant entry was spotted in the Forest Hill neighbourhood on one of my rambles. I love the symmetry of the place. This one is from my archives as I have not been wandering much lately because it seemed to be raining every time I had a chance to get out.

Garden Memories

My grandmother had a huge patch of Bleeding Hearts in her garden and my mum had them too so when I see the flowers each spring I think of family.

Tea For The Young

When I saw this storefront I thought the cafe belonged to someone named young but it turns out that it is a bubble tea place owned by two young people. Cute name they chose. I've never had bubble tea have you?

We Don't Talk About It

This "Elephant In The Room" was spotted in the window of a gallery and I thought it deserved to be seen if not talked about. I really like it.

Pretty Lady

I love this lady's face which was spotted in the midst of a wall of ornate lettering which I can usually not translate. I think it is the eyes that are so lovely.

Elegant Stables

This wonderful building is actually the stables of Casa Loma.  The stables are about a block from the Casa but are connected to the main building by an underground tunnel. I've shown it before but thought it was looking so nice on a sunny day that I decided to show it again.

Bad Hair Day

This Cardinal was singing away quite loudly and seemed to pay no heed to the high winds that were blowing at his back.  The wind gave his feathers a bit of a punk look don't you think?

Fun With Clothes

I was recently at the Artist Project which is an art show featuring a couple of hundred artists. One person's work really caught my attention. These are photographs by Helga Stentzel and if you look closely you realize that she has used different pieces of clothing to create the look of a creature or a face. Her booth was getting a lot of attention as the images were such fun.

Tulips

This isolated patch of tulips was flowering in the midst of a garden full of just green leaves. I thought they looked so simple and elegant.

Magic

This mural was found along the same walkway as the Loch Ness monster-like mural I showed you last week. Those sure look like magic mushrooms to me. Once again there were lots of signatures on the wall so I'm not sure about the artist for this one.

May Theme: Museum

The May theme for the City Daily Photo Blog community is Museum and I couldn't show anything other than our Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) with its wonderful Crystal addition. The Crystal addition was designed by Daniel Libeskind and opened in 2007 to much debate. You either love it or hate it. I quite like it. In this shot you can see how the addition crashes into the older traditional building.
