Perfect Timing

 

My ancient Clivia plant has decided to put on a show and brighten the place a bit. That white background out the window is snow! I think the plant is about 15 years old and it flowers twice a year - priceless.

Summer Flowers

 

It is nice to think about summer flowers and the visits they got from Hummingbirds when we are now having really cold weather. Not the best conditions for getting out for new pics! These Cosmos were out on the deck where Frank the snowman now rules.

Flowers In Fall

 

I took this shot a couple of weeks ago before the really cold weather hit us. Even when the blooming season is over flowers can lift the spirits.

Tough Marigolds

 

Marigolds seem to be among the last flowers to die off because of the frost and colder nights. I always let them go to seed and the next year will be rewarded with lots of new plants. These ones are the progeny of plants I bought 3 years ago. 

Rose Of Sharon

 

Rose of Sharon bushes are flowering all over the city. There are several colours but I think that the white ones are my favourite.

More Shade Plants

 

I showed you another planter of flowers in the shade a couple of weeks ago and thought I would show another. I love the colour combinations of this one. 

Thriving In The Shade

 

I spotted this large planter by the shady entrance to a condo building and was impressed by how well the plants were doing there. Happy in the shade!

Surprise

 

I guess I haven't been paying attention but I was walking along and spotted these lilies which totally took me by surprise and then I noticed patches of them all over the place. So lovely to see.

Orchid

 

My orchid has been putting on a grand show since mid March and still has one bud to open up. I love its colour.

Lilacs

 

This group of lilac bushes was so packed with flowers that I just had to stop for a pic. They were so lovely.

In A Blur

 

This was my first bee sighting of the year and I followed this guy for several minutes as he dive bombed a large pot of chives that were flowering. I couldn't catch him  staying still but still liked this shot of the high energy action so here it is.

Finally

 

We finally got some warm weather after the coldest May since 1967! The garden centres are all busy and well stocked now.

More Tree Blossoms

 

There are so many trees in blossom around the city that I just had to show another. I think this is a Redbud which is becoming more common here as the climate warms. You can also see another of the Canadian flags which are being displayed like never before.

Birds On Bloor

 

All along Bloor St in the Yorkville neighbourhood the large planter boxes have been planted up with flowers which are colour coordinated to match the birds that live in each planter. I liked these colours best.

More Magnolia Beauty

 

I couldn't resist another pic of a tree in blossom. This deep pink Magnolia was spotted in a small front garden in the Annex neighbourhood. Our weather has been up and down with cool nights and I think that has let the blossoms last a bit longer this year.

Blossom Time

 

This large tree in a neighbours back garden puts on a great show each spring. I am not sure but I always think that it must be an apple tree. This is the view from our roof deck.

Pink

 

This small Magnolia tree is always the first one to flower in our neighbourhood and once again it was a surprise to see it in bud a couple of weeks ago. Not only is the tree small, which is good for this front garden, but the flowers are also small & delicate.

Beauty

 

A friend gifted me with these lovely Daffodils. There were so many blossoms! And they were such a cheerful sight to have indoors.

A Sea Of Blue

 

Out for a walk this week I spotted this sea of blue Scilla running up and along a hill on Davenport Rd. This is probably just a quarter of the area with flowers. I was so surprised and pleased to see them.

Finally

 

I actually spotted some spring flowers this past week. They were in a south facing garden enjoying the sun on one of the few nice days we had.
