Busy Corner

This is a shot of yesterday's building taken from the diagonal corner. You can see that it is a busy corner with lots of cars and streetcars passing along Dundas St here. All those wires overhead in the intersection are for the streetcars, one of which is approaching the corner. You can see Monday's mural in the background.

The Screen

This is the screen that blocks the mural which I showed you yesterday. A rather ordinary looking building had this stainless steel laser cut scrim attached to it a few years ago. The pattern on the scrim references a mapping of parts of Toronto. The building itself is part of the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) and is right across the road from the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). I'll show you another view tomorrow.

Spring Day At The Park

This is a shot looking in the other direction from yesterday's pic. I was in Grange Park which is located directly behind the Art Gallery Of Ontario (AGO) and beside the Ontario College of Art & Design University (OCAD). OCAD features that wonderful addition suspended over the older traditional building which you see in the background. The architect for the addition was Will Alsop. I love it.

Searching

I spotted this mural on the side of a real estate office on Harbord St and I wonder if the binoculars refer to the agents always on the lookout for homes. The artist for this one is Adrian Forrow who is apparently an artist, illustrator, and also an instructor at the Ontario College of Art and Design. I like his style.

Grange View

I'm back at Grange Park behind the Art Gallery of Ontario for another pic. This shot was taken from the playground in the park looking towards the Financial District visible under the great stilted overhang of the Ontario College of Art and Design. I love this view!

Tropical

I spotted this very tropical mural on McCaul St near the art college (OCAD) and it looks so beautifully summery that I have decided I must go back when the ground is covered in deep snow for a hit of nicer times. I'm not sure about the artists since there seemed to be a lot of names on it but not one stood out. I like how they have painted the sun around a light fixture!

Tai Chi Mural

I found this mural near Grange Park which is beside Ontario College Of Art and Design (OCAD) and the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) and which is the location of daily Tai Chi sessions all year round. I could find no info on the artist for this one.

Little Yellow Artists

I haven't posted any of UB5000's little yellow birds for a while but I recently happened upon some new murals that he has done. This one showing wee yellow birds as artists is on the side of stairs leading into an art supply store near Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD), just off Queen St West. I love how the little guys are working together to get this painting of dogs in a canoe done!

Up On Stilts

I love shooting this building, the Ontario College Of Art And Design (OCAD) with its wonderful addition designed by Will Alsop. I showed it to you last year at night and from the other side - here - but couldn't resist another daylight shot when in the area. It seems so perfect for an art college and the old Victorian house at the left is an art supply company!

OCAD At Night

Wednesday evening I was at the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) and went out on the stairs that I showed you here. As you can see the view is special in particular the view of OCAD (Ontario College of Art & Design) which is the building illuminated by the blue lights. You can click on the OCAD label below to see shots taken in the daylight but they are a couple of years old now and I think I will make a point of taking some new ones soon. This spectacular addition to OCAD was designed by English architect Will Alsop and since its completion in 2004 it has become one of the most photographed buildings in Toronto.

Condo Invasion

This rather strange building is the sales or presentation centre for a condo to be constructed on Queen St in the West Queen West area which has been another big area for artist studios. There is now a lot of pressure from condos and the artists are losing the old warehouses that were there. This condo company hired British architect Will Alsop ( he designed the Ontario College of Art and Design floating addition ) to design their sales centre and has tried to trade on the bohemian flavour of this part of Queen St in their sales pitch.

Sculpture at OCAD

This bronze and metal installation, titled "Imperfect Paradise" is situated under the Ontario College of Art and Design addition. The artist is John McEwen and it was installed in 1999. It really suits its avant garde surroundings.

OCAD the Sequel

This photo of the building is taken from the west while standing in Grange Park which is bordered by OCAD and its neighbour, The Art Gallery of Ontario.

Ontario College of Art and Design

The Sharp Centre for Design is an addition completed in 2004. The addition straddles the existing building atop brightly coloured 26 meter tall columns and was the first building completed in North America by English architect Will Alsop.
