Concrete Details

Just a quick shot of one small section of the Medical Science Building at U of Toronto which was the location of yesterday's "Squares" sculpture. The facade of the whole building is covered in wonderful 3-dimensional concrete patterns that vary throughout the structure. It is a super example of Brutalist design that is friendly to the eye and really works well unlike some that are just brutal!

Hmm. Not sure about that. But it's certainly impressive.

Certainly is a unique texture on this concrete wall. Makes for a strong photo.

wow! i'm guessing you don't get a lot of mold and moss growing there - that would be a lot of power-washing involved! :)

Hmm . . . brutalist architecture for a medical science building. Not the kind of combination I instinctively would have looked for. :-)

I can now see how yesterday's work with the squares sort of blends right in with the building. Interesting.

Have never seen anything quite like this and I really like it. Not usually a fan of concrete buildings, but this one changes my mind!

Wow! Simply amazing. I would love to see this in person. This might even be an example of brutalism that I like. That would be a first!

It's quite striking, but I can't say I like it.
