Wild In The City

These wild creatures were found in a tiny parkette tucked in between buildings at Bloor & Church St where many office workers eat their lunch. The steel sculptures are by artist John McEwen whose work I have shown you several times (click on the McEwen label below) in particular the wonderful sleeping teddy bear in the Wychwood Park neighbourhood. This installation is titled "Patterns For The Tree Of Life" and was installed in 1989. There is actually one more wolf and some tree cutouts in the park but I couldn't get them all into 1 shot.

The artist found a nice way to insert them on the urban environment. ;-)

When Louis Mumford defined what makes a city, he included great public art. Your photo proves him correct.

A great find Pat!

Geez! It's bad enough that we've had "cougar sightings" in the area. Put these out and who knows what panic might arise. :-)

They're kind of effective, Pat. But possibly feeling a little flat?

I'd rather see these animals than the millions of live raccoons...

I am afraid of wolves. So dangerous.

I love them! They might look a little menacing at night though.

I'd much rather see a sculpted wolf than a real one in the city!

I bet they look worrying at night!

I love it, and I love the way your city supports public art.
