Deco On The Lakeshore

This is the Tip Top Tailors Building which is located right on the shore of Lake Ontario downtown with fabulous views of the lake & parkland around it. The original Art Deco building was designed by Bishop & Miller architects and built in 1929 to serve as the factory, showroom and offices of Tip Top Tailors which is a large menswear company. The building has been historically designated and was sold and converted into lofts in 2005 and at that time the 6 glass fronted stories were added on top. I'll show you a detail of the deco features tomorrow. And of course that is one of our famous streetcars heading by.

Glad you told us about the added floors above. That was one of the first things that caught my eye.

Wonderful looking building, good to see the streetcar getting into the shot too!

I was going to say that the glass didn't look very art déco but they did a really good job of preserving the original features! And I love how you caught that big splash of red in the foreground!

This brings back memories. Back in the 1960's I started working at the TTC. They sent me there to be measured for a uniform. Those were the days when Tip Top still made the uniforms and other clothing on location.

Would love to take that streetcar. Would love to see the inside of one of those loft condos too. But I bet it would be impossible for me to do the latter.

It is both a handsome building, with a nice compatible modern addition, and a lovely photo with the passing streetcar.

The new addition doesn't seem to clash too much with the original. Good shot!

I am really enjoying seeing parts of Toronto that I have not seen before. It has been years since my last visit. Love the streetcar and that beautiful building.

How nice the streetcar entered the scene at just the right moment!
