Rat Rod

I don't really understand the whole fascination with rat rods but I did think this 1964 Bel Air station wagon was cool to see. It would look better with a nice paint job instead of being made to look rusted don't you think?

I agree with you, Pat !

My parents had one like this when I was in high school. It was a very pretty shade of red and my dad kept it shining. You are right, it would look much better painted and shined.

I agree on both counts...

Get lots of rat cars over here, people seem facinated by doing Vee Dubs which I think is sacralidge

I'd never heard of rat rods before. If this were in a field or a ghost town where I'd think it way cool. As it is, it's ugly IMO...

Just as I like them--broken in. :-)

You mean people made it like this purposely? What a world we live in!'

Re Cedar Key: It's about 75 miles west of Ocala...we take Hwy 27 to 326 over to 91 then north to 24. Then left at Otter Creek. It's 24 miles on a 2-lane road to the island of Cedar Key. What we like about it is that it is very much the same as it was on our first visit, the summer of 1988.

Yep, I'd like to see it painted, too!

Does look like something from 'Mad Max'!

Is this how they intended the car to look? I don't get that either...

You don't have to wash or polish them. Seriously, I've owned my fair share of old cars which I have restored looking like as if they came off the showroom floor. I finally reached the point of leaving old cars as is for I fussed over them WAY TOO MUCH and worried about them getting dinged by a rock, people leaving fingerprints or just plain dusty and dirty. Once I began leaving them in their natural state I really then could enjoy having them. That was then; now I have nothing.

Never heard about a rat car before but now I get the meaning.

A station wagon rat rod? OK!

Looks like this old station wagon has come by its rust honestly. Rat rods don't look fancy or shiny, but often run better than they did originally. Interesting photo.

I totally agree! I bet in its day it was a beauty too, possibly two-toned even!
