Mid-Town Clock Tower

This clock tower belongs to Upper Canada College which is an exclusive private school for boys located just north of St Clair Ave. When driving up Avenue Road which ends at the school you get a wonderful view of the school and its tower. The original Romanesque Revival building on the property was built in 1891 but was is such a state of disrepair that it was torn down in the 50s and this Georgian structure was constructed and opened in 1960. There were a few flakes of snow coming down when I took this pic. I will try to go back one day and get a shot of the view looking up from Avenue Road.

From Romanesque to Georgian.. that's quite a journey :) It looks really good though, I like the red brick. I'm still trying to get my head around the idea of the temperature being -27C Pat, we really are upside down from each other aren't we :) we had just a few degrees higher than 27C day here today, it was perfect.

It is a dramatic architectural feature, although I'm not sure that a "school for boys" is appropos in today's world.

Whatever, Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours! 💝

I've always been rather glad I attended a co-educational institution. There were benefits. :-)

Always liked the solid look of Romanesque architecture. Assuming the clock in the tower works, we can tell when this picture was taken. Thanks for your comment today. It was the only one I received.

Looked it up on Google Maps, great view of the tower and the rest of the building when you zoom in.
