Shoemaker

Another mural that I spotted on a garage, this seems to show a shoemaker at work. I wonder if there is some kind of history attached to the choice of subject.

The man has a rather poignant face. My great-grandfather in Sweden was a shoemaker. He never got rich doing that, though.

How beautiful and what history to be remembered for a very long time!

This is a great. It reminds me of the little shoemaker shop that was in my neighborhood when I was growing up. I went in there several times with my dad and the owner was always hard at work like this guy.

The shoemaker is quite a character! Nicely done!

Great detail on that face.

Pretty darn fancy for a garage.

I love this! Reminds me when I was growing up, we had a local guy who was a cobbler and fixed everyone's shoes. When you walked in to his small shop, you could smell the leather shoes. Today, people just throw them out and buy new ones.

It's cool, that people want to have murals on their garages instead of grey space. This mural catches eye.

I like all these garage door murals that you find.

An icon of the area, perhaps?

i can actually remember when I took a pair of sandals I had to a shoemaker to have them resoled. I'm still wearing them. :-)

Now that's a very cool mural...lots of detail.

I love it that the city doesn't force the owners to paint over the murals.

A Bygone craft I fear.... he looks dedicated and proud of his good work.

There were plenty of shoe makers around when I was young, but they are now gone. People don't repair shoes any longer, or seldom have them custom made. Great find. I will bet there is some history here.

I bet there is Pat, it seems too specific. Beautifully done here.

I like how the mural extends beyond the actual garage door onto the wall. Very nice.

Interesting subject. And nicely done.
The background looks absolutely lovely and it looks like an extension of the snowy weather outside.
What a great find.

Cobblers are hard to find these days. I like how this one is not just on the garage door, but covers the all s well.

I would love to know the reason for this...is it on a private garage? It makes me wonder if it is in reference to a family member.

I don't think this artist has been featured on your blog before. The style is quite distinctive and the image poignant. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
