Energetic Little Duck

I went by James Gardens to look at the ducks and most of them were sleeping or just taking it easy. They are usually all Mallards but this day there were two smaller bundles of a activity racing around the pond disrupting the naps. There were two Green-Winged Teal Ducks having a great time. You can see in this pic how small they are compared to the Mallards.

What a cute little guy. I don't think I've seen one before.

That's a super phot showing the comparative size of the two birds. Our British Teals are slightly different, lacking the vertical white line on their sides. Very Occasionally a Green-Winged Teal turns up on this side of the Atlantic, causing much excitement amongst bird watchers.

Every year, one or two of these

Green-winged Teal make it across the Atlantic and end up in UK. Makes a change from our Common Teal.

I would have thought they were babies. Thanks for the education.

Cool! I've never seen that species. Looks like maybe it has been adopted. :-)

They're very attractive birds. We have teal but not green-winged.
