I had posted this pic in mid January along with the sign about this Elm tree being a survivor against the disease that has killed almost all of them in the city. Unfortunately the tree did not leaf out this spring and it was scheduled to be cut down last week. The city forestry department is attempting to recover some seeds or cuttings to retain the DNA of this grand tree.

It is sad to loose this last grand tree.
Take care, have a great day and happy week ahead.
...a tragic story.
Darn it. If only they had thought about seed recovery earlier.
What tragic story.
There's so few of them, it seems.
That's sad!
Oh dear, that is sad news. The loss of such big trees is truly sad.
Sad to lose a lovely big tree. The elm disease is rampant here too.
Same story in Stockholm with many elm trees. And in my area trees are dying because of the spruce bark beetle.
It's heartbreaking to lose such a resilient Elm, but there's quiet hope in the city's effort to preserve its legacy: an echo of its strength may yet live on through future generations
