Small Door

One thing I noticed in a few places around old Quebec City were these small doors at ground level in homes. I have no idea what they could be for but wonder if it was something to do with coal delivery in the old days. I still remember coal being delivered to my parents house through a basement window & into a coal bin.  Any ideas?  And look how steep that street was!

Pat, you have discovered where the Leprechauns in Quebec City live. They are called "little people" for a good reason.

We had a heritage coal bin in an old house.

The door looks nice.

That is a possible explanation. It does look a bit strange. I have those same memories of coal being delivered through a narrow window into the bin in the basement. I can still picture my dad shoveling coal into the furnace which looked very scary to me as a little kid.

Coal delivery, sounds like a good reason. Take care, have a great day!

Our coal was delivered through a small window and in to a bin is what I remember.
