Cities

This sign and its accompanying cartoon of Jane Jacobs can be found on a retaining wall along Christie St not too far from where she lived in the Annex neighbourhood for many years. Jacobs was a noted urbanist who believed in a community-based approach to city living and was quite involved in many such causes in Toronto.

I think she was right. I love living in the city and being a part of the community.

This one is neat. I've been wanting to get a photo of it for ages, but am always driving, and usually in heavy traffic, whenever I've passed by.

She was a wise woman. A shame the lunatic and his cult of followers currently disparaging the city with their every word can't see that kind of wisdom.

Interesting. I had never heard of Jane Jacobs before this. Looking at her website, I see a 'walk' was held in Indianapolis earlier this year. I'm wondering how successful it was.

I've never seen such a long quotation spread out along a wall before. I've never heard of Jane Jacobs so maybe I need to find out a bit more.

Great find. I am sure the little kiddo will be missing it dearly.

I use to include the work of Jane Jacobs in my urban sociology class on the character of cities and neighborhoods. She was the great champion of diversity and civil interaction. Lovely mural and quote in your photo.

absolutely enlightening, hopefully the citizens read it and heeded it.

I came to see if you had posted a fence. Instead I found this wall (a fence of sorts) with this great quotation.
