Reborn

This fine building is the Campbell Block located at Keele St and Dundas St W in the Junction neighbourhood. It was built in 1888 but for many years it has been in very bad condition. The bricks had been painted and the paint was badly faded, the windows were rotting and there were many empty storefronts on the main floor. After being covered with scaffolding for ages it is now revealed in almost its original glory, the whole building has been restored and it now awaits new tenants for the ground floor. The Super Submarine shop has been there for 40 years and they are staying put. The Junction is a very trendy neighbourhood now and this adds perfectly to the street scene.

Beautifully restored Pat, so good to see these days. The Super Submarine Shop has prime spot there. The Junction sounds a little like our Mt Lawley/Highgate inner city suburbs.

Forty years strong and still selling sandwiches says it all! Nice capture, what a pretty day you had.

Good old Super Submarine, and the building does look fantastic now!

How cool. I'm so glad that the owners put their money and energy into returning this building to its original splendor. I do think, though, that "Super Submarine" should change its name to "The Yellow Sub," and paint their sign yellow, too. Especially since this is now a very trendy neighborhood! :)

The windows and brick lend character to that corner.

Beautiful work! It's good that they restored it... too often they'll just tear down.

Somehow when I see a sign like "Super Submarine" I think more of a boat than a sandwich. Glad to see this graceful old building has had some restoration and maintenance. Nothing like making a neighborhood trendy to make the buildings pretty again.
