Subway Aboveground

Toronto is a city known for all of its ravines and when the subway comes to one of the ravines the tunnels go above ground such as here where it crosses the Rosedale ravine. This is the stretch along Bloor St just before the Castle Frank station whose exit I showed you a week ago.

That subway was awesome!! I think I rode that from the airport to downtown, correct?! It has the most comfortable subway car seats ever!!! So nice and FAST!

Seeing this image made me think of an article I read yesterday in the New York Times about development of vacuum tubes to be used as transport for people and cargo. It claimed that they could move people at speeds up to 675 miles per hour and to the people it would feel similar to flying. One of the companies developing the technology is from Toronto. They are building a six mile test track that will eventually span between Calgary and Edmonton. There are other test tracks in the US either built or under construction. It's an interesting idea. I think I'd have to know a lot more about it before I'd try it myself. Anyway, seeing this enclosed tube made me think of that.

Hello,

It is great the subway can go underground and above ground when necessary.
Wishing you a happy day!

Interesting photo. I didn't realize Toronto had an above ground subway that can go both ways above and below when necessary.

I've known of the ravines, just not this location.

Ravines? That makes for interesting topography in a city as it looks here.

It looks to be totally enclosed, no windows, so a person would not know they were above ground - interesting

Must be gloomy when the cars go through this segment, but I suppose it is no worse than an underground subway.
