Massey Hall

Massey Hall is a venerable old performing arts theatre in downtown Toronto. It was built in 1894 and has been the site of many wonderful concerts and events through the years. It has heritage protection and has been closed for a couple of years to undergo needed renovations which will also include the removal of those fire stairs that ruin the look of the front of it. It seats only about 3,000 people so is a great place to go to hear your favourites.

Unusual angle. Shot from a car?

Beautiful! If walls could talk imagine the stories!

Those fire stairs are impressive, if unsafe looking. Hope this hall gets renovated as it is a great building.

Presumably the fire escapes were added as a rather necessary afterthought!

It's a great looking place. I can't wait for it to be safe again to go to events in places like this. Won't that be great?

...removal of the stairs will be a huge improvement! It nice to hear that it would become another glass high rise. Thanks for sharing.

Yes those stairs are odd. With those red doors I thought it was a fire station before reading your post.

Quedará muy elegante la fachada sin las escaleras.
Buen miércoles Pat. Cuídate.
Un abrazo.

I wonder how they'll compensate for the loss of the fire escape.

What a wonderful old building Pat, yes those stairs definitely have to go! Wonder if this building was ever used adds fire station?

We heard several concerts there in 1971-72 when my wife was at nursing school around the corner.

I was there once when I was a teenager. I wish I could remember the name of the group.

I think the fire stairs gives it a remarkable front and must be kept.
