World Famous Bargain Centre

More of the signs from Honest Ed's showing a bit of the sense of humour that he had. I intend to go back at night before it closes at the end of the month and get a night shot of the big signs at the corner of Bathurst & Bloor. The 4.5 acre property that includes the store and many heritage buildings along Markham St are to be developed with several towers of varying sizes as well as parks and the renovation of some of the heritage buildings.

Honest Ed did have a sense of humor. I wonder if he advertised on TV?

4.5 acres is quite a lot of space! I'd say that property is a developers dream.

Only the name already is a joke. But a shot in the dark would be nice.

Well that is an eye-catching store front!

Honest Ed must have been quite the character pushing his bargains. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a tv ad, his personality would have been great for sales. The store front in lights would be great.

I like your shots from good old honest Ed's place. So many folks will miss this place when it's gone.

Sad to see a icon like this one disappear.

'Only the floors are crooked!' Great signs!

Honest Ed stretches the truth by claiming to be "World Famous". We never heard of him here in SD, but then we don't claim to know all that much about the rest of the world.

Honest Ed's made me think of an editorial cartoon series I've been following called Non Sequitur about a character called Capt. Eddie. :-) http://www.gocomics.com/nonsequitur

It's sad when known buildings are demolished in favor of some new towers.Good thought to go and try to capture the signs before it all goes down.

Ed was quite a character, as I recall. I don't know, his son has always come across as something of an opportunist.
