Heading Under

These are the tracks from the Up Express which is a train running from Union Station in downtown Toronto out to the Toronto Pearson International Airport. At this point in the Weston neighbourhood the tracks are first covered by these pipes and then head underground for a short distance. I'm not sure if these pipes are supposed to buffer the sound or what their purpose is.

An interesting photo! Without your explanation I would have been puzzled as to what exactly it was - all those lines and shadows!

Interesting photo! You have me wondering why they are there too.

A very nice, artsy shot...love the vertical, horizontal lines. I'd guess the pipes are there to keep the tracks from exploding into small metal pieces during the extreme cold winters. :)

Oh, yes, I forgot. I'm seeing more and more Ontario license plates down here. Can you please tell your Ontarion friends that we have enough people in Florida now and the state is beginning to sink?

One more thing: you are always welcome!

I like the shadows they create. It makes for a wonderful photo, nice one Pat.

It's only logical to run a train from downtown to an international airport. But, of course, logic didn't enter into the decision here locally not to. :-(

I saw my first UP train last Sunday crossing over Bloor St. It only had two coaches but I was excited to see it.
