Fun At The Rink

One nice thing about all the cold weather we have had is that rinks are popping up all over as people flood their back yards and volunteers flatten the snow in parks and then flood the areas. This park in the Annex neighbourhood has a large group of volunteers who organize activities all year and have been maintaining this rink for the kids. It is a large one and at this time when I went by there were 2 hockey games going on as well as a few little girls practicing their figure skating along the sidelines. It sure took me back to my childhood when we spent hours on end skating at the local park.

It's much the same here. There's one set up in a small park across from the Italian grocer I go to once or twice a week.

The best thing about winter... kids love it!

As a kid I had great fun skating on local ponds, and sometimes a hockey game got going. No one ever worried about the score, we were just having fun.

There are two such places in Tungelsta where the locals keep the ice in good shape for both kids and grown-up icehockey fans.

To ride a bike all winter you just have to have the right clothes. Riding a bike is sometimes warmer than driving in a cold car.

This looks so inviting. I just saw a news piece about how global warming has reduced the number of safe places to skate.

We had numerous places to skate as a kid plus an indoor rink. I didn't care to skate though.

I love seeing these outdoor rinks. Our kids used to maintain one near their home in Ottawa.

...this looks like my childhood neighborhood. Natural ice is hard to keep lately, our temps go up and down.

The outdoor rinks look fun, I do not see them here.
We do have a few indoor skating rinks. Take care, enjoy your day!

More backyard rinks than I have seen in years; skating on frozen ponds too.

Wow, that really is wonderful. The fact it´s made by volunteers and the outcome. And the sun!
Here we have a small fake one, for money, of course.
