Poor Forgotten Thing

I was in the grocery store in mid January and spotted a rather beat-up box containing an Amaryllis bulb that was a leftover from Christmas. For $1 I brought the wee thing home and began watering it and first a few leaves appeared and then a flower bud on a stem about 2" long rather than the usual 1' one. Lo and behold, it has opened and it is a beauty. I will baby the bulb all year and see what it can do next year!

It sure is pretty! I have a flower bed that is just full of blooming amaryllis that were given to me by my grandfather over 30 years ago. Every year they put on quite a show and always make me think of him!

a nice way to thank you for saving it!

You did well. With my luck, the plant would have just shriveled up and died and I would have wasted $1.

Lovely colour. I got two stems each with four blooms on mine this year!

Good for you! We once thought of saving an easter lily and stuck it in a bag under the stairs and promptly forgot all about it. It was startling to find a flower sticking out the top one day several months later!
